In episode 13, we see the splendid efforts of Shu who has given up.When he is in hand to hand combat with Rajura, we see the troubles he has to face because of the existence of the yoroi. Which will the protagonist choose in order to survive? But, why was that role give to Shu, and not Ryo? Probably because of the naivety of Shu's plain and simple personality. As well as the surety he has for his own existence.
Shu has the strongest yoroi. Therefore, Shu is the first one Arago wanted to come to the youjakai. If it had been Ryo who had been met with that situation, he would have continued to be bothered by it to the end. Because Shu is able to stand up and brush it off, he was given the role in episode 13. Also because Shu has that kind of personality, there are a lot of parts in YST where he is saving others.

Family Structure
Father: He is a big shot among the Chinese of Yokohama. He's well built and has a large presence. He's like the character Mr. Chow in the manga Oishinbo. He is also pretty good at KungFu.
Mother: She is a spirited mother. Even though the Shu family was prosperous, the result of her training was that she raised her children strictly. She is a master of KunFu, She's Strong! Shu is also a practitioner because he was trained since he was young.
Siblings: Shu has 4 siblings in this order; a sturdy younger sister, a cute younger brother, Mei Ryuu the mischievous little brother, and Yun a sister and the youngest.
How he got his yoroi
Shu is a descendant of a distinguished merchant family that came to japan during the Ch'ing Dynasty (1666-1912). The legend of Kongo was just an oral story passed through the Ch'ing royal family. Then the story was passed among the Chinese merchants living in Japan. The story was, that the armor of legend was in the family. They had roots in Japan and could show the true power of the armor.
Shu's brothers, while playing in the family storehouse, were stopped from breaking an heirloom. It was when Shu stuck up for his brothers that his heart/spirit of Justice was awakened and it was in this store house that the orb was found. When others held the orb nothing happened, but when Shu held it the orb shone brilliantly and the character for Justice rose to the surface.
Life
Of the 5 he was born into the most prosperous family. He isn't stuck up. Probably because of his good training.
Sports & Hobbies
As for sports, his strong points are Judo and KungFu. His hobbies are eating, playing the arm wrestling game at the arcade, and playing video games. He works out a lot because he is at risk for diabetes.
People he respects
Because Shu helped out in the Chinese Restaurant since he was little, there was a cook he respected. Other than that, Genghis Khan, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee.
Dislikes
Konnyaku and Swallow's Nest. Just like Shu that his dislikes are all food related.
Even though a large portion of the city disappeared, why wasn't a new government put into place?
When Arago's castle appeared in the skies above Shinjuku, the metropolis facility was stopped, and a provisional government was created in Osaka. Then, after the youjakai disappeared from Shinjuku, the metropolis did nothing in the way of reconstruction. Since the people of Tokyo's memories had vanished, it was okay, but the people elsewhere had to react to the events of the youja, wouldn't they?
In reality, there was no communication with Tokyo, so the other people had no idea what was going on. That is because of the thick youja cloud that covered the city. Then, during the battles the various youja would go and destroy things inside the barrier, after the youjakai disappeared the destroyed buildings returned to the way they were before. (However, the damage caused by the present day weapons remained.) If you think of it as if the youjakai and the present world are parallel worlds, it's understandable isn't it?
