TROOPER'S SIGHT Character's Introductions

Ryo (遼)

Profile

Sanada Ryo

August 15th 1973 Blood Type O

165cm/5'4” 57kg/125lbs

Birthplace Yamanashi Prefecture (in a log house styled home deep in the mountains)

When Ryo met Baykuen, who could sense ones's heart, saw that he had a honest heart. If we said that on the contrary, it is because he was that kind of boy that Byakuen was able to notice him.

But on the other hand, he is stubborn. He's not good with socializing with people. He is also has the characteristics of an O type Leo. He thinks of himself as genuine, he likes to push himself on, but he feels he can't communicate with skillful people. After all, he does say, “WHY?!” Maybe having a heart of “Benevolence” is a burden.

In the armoring up scenes of Rekka and Kikkoutei, His face looks like he has to endure a lot of anguish. There are a variety of tragic things like this in this production. This was Ikeda's idea, he wanted that kind of thing drawn.

Family Structure

Father: As for work, he's an wildlife photographer. He was the successor to the Sanada family, but left because he did not like the rigid customs of the family. As a result of being a photographer, one day, he met a white tiger and followed him. He would often be away from his home, so that he could concentrate on the character of his photography subjects. He raised Ryo in a laissez-faire way.

Mother: Died when Ryo was a child.

Siblings: None

How he got the yoroi

Ryo ran across Byakuen 3 times, in 1977, 1980, and 1983, but they had already met by then. It was Byakuen who had saved a young Ryo who had been injured on the mountain. To deal with the coming threat of the Youjakai, Kaosu and Byakuen went searching for humans with “spirit”. Only one person passed their judgement, Ryo. Byakuen was pleased with Ryo because he had a heart that understood nature. When he saw Ryo, Kaosu gave him the yoroi. The armor of “Benevolence” Rekka. This all happened one year before he went to Shinjuku to face Arago.

Life

He had a normal upbringing. He lived deep in the mountains, so he really didn't care about how he dressed. In episode 1 he's wearing a sweatshirt, jeans, and sneakers, but it seems that's his best.

Sports & Hobbies

His best sport is soccer. Having grown up in the mountains, he had strong legs, so soccer suited him. He likes whack-a-mole. This is because when he first went to Shinjuku and into an arcade he played whack-a-mole. He might be a little pathetic... As for hobbies, he likes trekking (walking in the mountains). But, does walking around and to and from his house actually a hobby?

Dislikes

Shaved ice and Interviews... I can understand interviews, but why doesn't he like shaved ice?

People he respects

Sakamoto Ryouma & Minamoto Musashi

The Reason Ryo became Team Leader

For the people called Samurai, the teaching of confucianism was important. Within the teachings of confucianism, the most important thing that was taught was the heart of “Jin”. I don't think Jin can be merely defined as benevolence, but harmony and personal development are a part of it. For Ryo to have this kind of “Jin” was essential for him to become the team leader.

In addition, in episode 1 when Nasuti and Jun were taken hostage, Ryo put his weapons together and finished things. At that time, the other four could only raise their voice in surprise. The four felt as if they were no match for something like Ryo's heart of Jin. “There's no way we can do that...” In this way, regardless of his mental level, Ryo became the leader of the five. This is also the reasoning behind why the Kikoutei chose him.
